Pokémon Let's Go Candy Guide
This guide will show you how to get lots of Candy for your Pokémon.
Awakening Values
As you likely already know, Pokémon gain stats every time they level. However, in Pokémon Let's Go, there is another avenue to bolster your Pokémon's stats that is separate from leveling up. These stats are referred to as "Awakening Values" or AVs. Each stat that a Pokémon has can be boosted by up to +200 from Awakening Values. These AVs can be applied at any point to a Pokémon, regardless of level. In theory, you could take a level 1 Pokémon and boost each of their stats by +200.
One method by which your Pokémon can get Awakening Values is simply to level up. Every time your Pokémon levels up, they will get +1 AV to a random stat. You'll know which stat received the AV as it will be shown as a yellow +1.
However, the primary mechanism for boosting AVs is Candy.
How Candy Boosts AVs
Each time you use Candy, it will boost your Pokémon's AVs by 1. If you're using a specific type of Candy, it will boost that specific stat by 1, but may cost more than 1 Candy depending on how many AVs you currently have. To add to this complexity, specific candy also has different levels that can be used at different levels for the Pokémon and have different Candy costs. Additionally, if you're using a Pokémon's exclusive Candy, it will boost all stats by +1 AV, and it will never cost more than 1. I know this is hard to follow, so I'll break it down in a chart.

Maxing Your AVs
This chart can be a little difficult to unpack so I'll summarize:
- It takes 545 XL Candy to max a specific stat on a Pokémon, or 3270 total XL Candy to max all stats.
- It takes 1039 total Candy to max a specific stat on a Pokémon if you're using lower levels to reach the max boost first. This totals to 6234 Candy to max all stats.
- It takes 200 Pokémon Specific to max all stats.
Obviously, the Candy requirements for pumping your Pokémon via stat specific Candy are ridiculous. It is very costly to max out a Pokémon's AVs unless you're using Pokémon specific Candy.
How to Get Various Types of Candy: Specific Stats
While there are plenty of ways you'll scoop up random pieces of Candy, none of them are very significant next to the thousands you'll need. However, Pokémon specific Candy is also quite rare to come by so you will likely find yourself trying to grind for stat specific Candy to strategically apply where you see fit on your individual Pokémon.

It's also worth noting you get a lot of Candy for transferring Pokémon to the professor as well! Don't forget to empty your Pokébox of unwanted catches and get the rewards.

How to Get Various Types of Candy: Specific Pokémon
Candy for specific Pokémon can also be found by chaining catch combos, but there are several other ways to get them as well. You can get Pokémon specific Candy by:
- Chaining catch combos of a specific type of Pokémon.
- Transferring Pokémon to the professor (usually when you do high amounts).
- Walking your Pokémon in the Poké Ball Plus.
- You'll also get bonus Candy for the Pokémon you have out of its Pokeball when you return the Pokémon you're walking in the Poké Ball Plus. (Yes, that means you can double your rewards.)
As you may know, people who own a Poké Ball Plus can place their Pokémon into the ball and walk them around as well as interact with them. Doing so will grant them rewards when they return the Pokémon back to the game. Some of the rewards will include Candy specifically for the Pokémon you walk around. This is the only way to get Pokémon specific Candy for a lot of Pokémon, including the one time only options such as Mewtwo. For more information on using the Poké Ball Plus, check out my guide.

Rare Candy
While called Candy, Rare Candy is a bit different than all other Candy we've already covered. You may know Rare Candy from previous versions of Pokémon. Simply put, Rare Candy levels up your Pokémon once, regardless of what level is currently is.
That means the most effective use of a Rare Candy is to bring a Pokemon from level 99 to 100. Ideally, you're aiming to either use Rare Candy to max out Pokémon around 90 to 95, bringing them up to 100. Otherwise, you'd use Rare Candy to level up a few times to get over a place where you're stuck. For example, you're stuck on a gym leader, and the proper counter is under-leveled, so you use some Rare Candy to push you over the edge and actually be able to beat the leader.
Rare Candy is hard to come by, but can also be granted from walking a Pokémon in a Poké Ball Plus. It is not very common otherwise.
